About Our District

  

Water Wheel Fire & Medical District: Excellence in Service

The Water Wheel Fire & Medical District is a beacon of professionalism, we are staffed 24/7/365 by dedicated professionals committed to serving our community.

Our district spans approximately 55 square miles, nestled 9 miles northeast of Payson, Arizona, at the base of the majestic Mogollon Rim. Situated at an elevation exceeding 5,100 feet above sea level, we are surrounded by the natural beauty of the Tonto National Forest and serve 16 small mountain communities. 

Our district is home to a permanent population of around 4,000 residents, primarily consisting of retired or semi-retired individuals. During the summer months, our population surges to nearly 20,000, attracted by the recreational opportunities in our area and the presence of two large Scout Camps. 

As an all-risk response agency, we provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) first response services.

Join the Water Wheel Fire & Medical District Sparks Auxiliary for our 3rd Annual Chili & Salsa Cook-Off & Silent Auction on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Station 71!

Come enjoy an evening filled with great food, friendly competition, community fun, and our Silent Auction, all while helping us raise funds toward the purchase of a LUCAS® Chest Compression System for Water Wheel Fire & Medical District.

❤️ This will be our LAST Auxiliary event of the 2026 season! Come out and help us finish the season strong while supporting a lifesaving cause!
